Strategic Communications Specialist

Employer: CHEVSJob type: Full timeSalary: USD 1,500–2,000/monthDeadline: November 26, 2026

At CHEVS, communication is political. It is how we build collective imagination, counter anti-rights narratives, and make visible the struggles and brilliance of queer, feminist, and youth movements across Africa.

In recent years, CHEVS has undergone significant growth, including deep strategic work, to centre communications and influence as core elements of our strategy – the Strategic Communications Specialist acts to deepen and further embed this work, bolstering the communications team with an aligned organisational agenda and complimenting philanthropic, regional and global influence agendas and supporting CHEVS to strengthen its feminist strategic communications in a manner that reflects CHEVS’ ambitions, politics, movement spirit, and intersectional feminist vision.

This role leads renewal and revamping of approaches to stewardship of CHEVS’ collective voice, narrative identity, and storytelling practice, ensuring that everything we create, from advocacy campaigns and reports to digital content and convenings, carries the heartbeat of our politics: decoloniality, Pan-Africanism, justice, care, resistance and youth power.

The Strategic Communications Specialist will work closely with the team to update CHEVS’ communications approaches and to ensure that the organisation is optimised in its work to amplify movement stories, shift narratives, and influence the discourse on rights, equality, and freedom in Africa.

What we’re looking for

  • ✨The Strategic Communications specialist is a strategic, organised, creative, self-motivated experienced Communications leader and acts as the primary pen holder of CHEVS, with a sharp decolonial feminist political analysis to build a culture of strategic communications for influence and boldly position the organisation as a driver of change. This position requires a person who is adept at asymmetric strategic communications, detail-oriented, efficient, and accurate, with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and a passion for queer, feminist, Pan-Africanist politics and movement building.
